American Airlines Cracks Down on 'Gate Lice' With New Boarding System

American Airlines is taking decisive action against the notorious phenomenon of 'gate lice' - passengers who crowd around boarding gates before their group is called - by implementing a new digital boarding system. The airline announced this week that it will use enhanced digital displays and automated announcements to better manage the boarding process and reduce gate crowding.

The new system, which is being rolled out across major hubs first, uses clear digital signage to display exactly which boarding group is currently allowed to board. Additionally, automated announcements will be more frequent and specific, leaving no room for confusion about when passengers should approach the gate.
